IOLTA / Georgia Bar Foundation

The Georgia Bar Foundation (GBF) is the charitable arm of the Supreme Court of Georgia. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused primarily on promoting access to justice in Georgia. Since its creation in 1967, the GBF has been an important part of working to ensure Georgians have access to legal resources, especially Georgians who could not otherwise afford to pay for legal representation.

The GBF is governed by a Board of Trustees with up to 20 members. All of the trustees are appointed by the Supreme Court of Georgia except three who are ex-officio members during the time they serve as officers of the State Bar of Georgia.

Grant Information

One of the ways the GBF promotes access to justice is by awarding grants to qualified organizations. The primary source of funding for GBF grants is the Interest On Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program, which began in 1983. The GBF may also receive and distribute funds from other sources, including contributions to other fees assigned to be received by the Foundation.

More information about GBF Grants can be found here.

Note: The application period for the current grant cycle has closed. The next application period will open in early 2025. Check back for more information in the coming months.
