Georgia legal community mourns loss of Ben Garland

The Telegraph, Macon

To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Macon attorney Benjamin M. “Ben” Garland after his passing at the age of 79.

A member of the Georgia Bar since 1968, Mr. Garland spent his entire, nearly half-century career with the law firm of Hall, Bloch, Garland & Meyer. A leader among his peers, he served on the Board of Governors and Executive Committee of the State Bar of Georgia and as chair of the Board of Visitors at Mercer Law School. In 2011, the Macon Bar Association presented Mr. Garland with its highest honor, the Judge William Augustus Bootle Professionalism Award.

Ben Garland’s long and exemplary career of service is an inspiration to all Georgia lawyers. We are appreciative of his many generous contributions to the legal system in our state. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth L. Fite
President, State Bar of Georgia
