Georgia legal community mourns loss of Morton Levine

Daily Report

To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Atlanta bankruptcy attorney Morton P. Levine after his passing at the age of 95.

After graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1953, Mr. Levine started his own firm in Atlanta, specializing in bankruptcy law, in which he earned a national reputation for negotiating and conflict resolution in large and small cases, having been appointed in well over 100 cases to serve as bankruptcy trustee for the debtor.

He served his profession as president of the Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute in 1978-79 and received the Atlanta Bar Association Bankruptcy Section’s David Pollard Award in 2003 for exemplifying a high standard of professionalism and ethics in bankruptcy practice. He also served his country in the Army, earning the World War II Victory Medal.

Morton Levine’s long and exemplary career of service is an inspiration to all Georgia lawyers. We are appreciative of his many generous contributions to the legal system in our state. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth L. Fite
President, State Bar of Georgia
