Local Attorneys Re-Elected to Board of Governors of State Bar of Georgia
Atlanta – Benjamin H. Brewton of Balch & Bingham LLP and John R.B. “Jack” Long of John R.B. Long P.C., both of Augusta, were re-elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the 52,000-member State Bar of Georgia. Both were installed June 4.
Brewton will serve in the Augusta Judicial Circuit, Post 2 seat on the board, representing Burke and Richmond counties. He earned his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1988. His law practice is focused on the defense of significant personal injury and wrongful death litigation as well as substantial commercial lawsuits. He is a past president of the Augusta Bar Association. Brewton was first appointed in 2021 to fill a vacancy in the Post 2 seat.
Long will continue to serve in the Post 4 seat from the Augusta Circuit. He is a graduate of the Walter F. George Law School at Mercer University and joined the State Bar in 2006. His law practice is focused in the areas of general civil litigation and family law. He is a past president of the State Bar’s Young Lawyers Division and the Young Lawyers of Augusta and previously served on the State Bar’s Executive Committee.
The Board of Governors is the 160-member policymaking authority of the State Bar, with representation from each of Georgia’s judicial circuits. The board holds regular meetings at least four times per year.
