XV. Annual Law School Symposia on Ethics and Professionalism in the Practice of Law


Funded by a settlement order entered by the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia in 1998, annual Symposia on Ethics and Professionalism in the Practice of Law are held at each ABA-accredited law school in Georgia on a rotating basis.  The Commission assists each of the law schools with the design and presentation of these programs, applicable to both law students and practitioners.

The first symposium was held at Mercer University School of Law in 2001: "Ethics in Settlement Negotiations." Following is a list of the subsequent symposiums:

  • 2003 - Emory University School of Law - "What do Clients Want?"
  • 2004 - Georgia State University College of Law - "Teaching Ethics and Professionalism"
  • 2004 - Mercer University School of Law - "Professionalism and Ethics in Judicial Selection"
  • 2005 - University of Georgia School of Law - "Taking Your Case to the Court of Public Opinion,"
  • 2007 - Emory University School of Law - "Lawyers and Disability"
  • 2008 - Georgia State University College of Law - "International Conference on the Future of Legal Education"
  • 2009 - Mercer University School of Law - "Ethics and Professionalism in the Digital Age"
  • 2010 - Emory University School of Law - "The Overlap of Legal and Medical Ethics"
  • 2011 - Georgia State University College of Law - "What Do We Know About How Bar Discipline Really Works?"
