To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime attorney and former state legislative leader M. Peterson “Pete” Robinson on his untimely passing July 1.

A member of the Georgia Bar since 1980, Mr. Robinson practiced law in his hometown of Columbus for many years and represented his community in both the Georgia House of Representatives and State Senate. He rose to positions of statewide influence as Senate floor leader for former Gov. Zell Miller and, in 1994, as Senate president pro-tem. He successfully sponsored the legislation that created the Georgia Lottery.

In 2001, he became a managing partner at Troutman Sanders LLP in Atlanta, co-founding and chairing Troutman Sanders Strategies. He joined King & Spalding in 2019 as a partner in its Government Advocacy and Public Policy Team in both Atlanta and Washington, D.C. He continued his service to the public and the justice system as chair of Georgia’s Judicial Nominating Commission under former Gov. Nathan Deal from 2011 to 2019.

Pete Robinson’s exemplary lifetime of service is an inspiration to all members of the legal profession. We are appreciative of his many generous contributions to the cause of justice in our state. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth L. Fite
President, State Bar of Georgia
