To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express congratulations to Judge Andrew A. Pinson of the Court of Appeals of Georgia on his appointment by Gov. Brian Kemp to become the newest justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia, succeeding Chief Justice David E. Nahmias, who has announced his retirement.

Justice Pinson brings 10 years of experience in the legal profession and justice system to his new position, including service as a law clerk to both Justice Clarence Thomas of the U.S. Supreme Court and then-Chief Judge David Sentelle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, in private practice with Jones Day in Atlanta, as solicitor general in the Georgia Office of the Attorney General and since Aug. 30, 2021, on the Court of Appeals.

We also congratulate Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Benjamin A. “Ben” Land on his appointment by Gov. Kemp to succeed Justice Pinson on the Court of Appeals. Judge Land will be well served by his nearly 30 years of legal and judicial experience, including the past four years on the Superior Court bench. Previously, he practiced law for 26 years in Columbus, focusing on civil litigation. He is a past president of the Chattahoochee Circuit Bar Association, the Columbus Inn of Court and the Columbus Bar Association and is a recipient of the State Bar of Georgia’s William B. Spann Jr. Award for Pro Bono Advocacy.

By accepting these appointments, Judge Pinson and Judge Land demonstrate their continued commitment to serving the public and the justice system. We wish them well in these new roles.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth L. Fite
President, State Bar of Georgia
