To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Atlanta attorney Mark J. Kadish after his passing at the age of 79.

A member of the Georgia Bar since 1975, Mr. Kadish began his legal career as a captain in the Army Judge Advocate General Corps at Fort McPherson. He served as defense counsel in the 1969 military court martial connected with the My Lai massacre during the Vietnam War. He was defense counsel in several other high-profile cases throughout the U.S.

Mr. Kadish also served as pro-hac vice judge in the Municipal Court of Atlanta and the State Court of Fulton County. He argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in United States v. Sharpe and later taught law at Emory University and Georgia State University.

Mark Kadish’s long and exemplary career of service is an inspiration to all Georgia lawyers. We are appreciative of his many generous contributions to the legal system in our state. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth L. Fite
President, State Bar of Georgia
