Atlanta – Elizabeth L. Fite, transition partner with Kutak Rock LLP in Atlanta, has completed her term as the 59th president of the 52,000-member State Bar of Georgia. Sarah B. “Sally” Akins of Savannah, who was installed as the new president on June 4, succeeds Fite.
Under Fite’s leadership during the past year, the State Bar was successful in adding greater efficiency and value to Bar member services, including the reopening of the Bar Center headquarters in Atlanta and regional offices in Savannah and Tifton, as well as a return to in-person meetings, programs and services after the COVID-19 pandemic had shut down those functions for more than a year.
Before taking office as president, Fite had served as secretary, treasurer and president-elect of the State Bar and as a member of its Executive Committee. An Atlanta resident, Fite is a graduate of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and earned her law degree from Emory University School of Law. She was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2005.
Fite is a business litigator and recognized trial attorney with significant experience handling complex liability and wrongful death lawsuits, resolving business disputes, and representing a local government in public safety matters. Prior to rejoining Kutak Rock’s national litigation practice group, she co-founded a plaintiff’s law firm focused on commercial vehicle accidents.
She previously served as an assistant county attorney for DeKalb County and, prior to that, practiced complex products liability litigation at a large law firm in Atlanta. As a member of Georgia’s Judicial COVID-19 Task Force, Fite worked with judges and fellow attorneys to help shepherd the state’s justice system through the public health crisis.
