Atlanta – Christopher R. “Chris” Jackson of McRae Smith Peek Harman & Monroe LLP in Rome was appointed by State Bar of Georgia President Sarah B. “Sally” Akins to serve on the Board of Governors of the 52,000-member State Bar.
Jackson succeeds Christopher P. Twyman of Cox Byington Twyman LLP in the Rome Judicial Circuit, Post 1 seat on the board, representing Floyd County. The vacancy occurred when Twyman was elected and installed as secretary of the State Bar for 2022-23.
Jackson earned his law degree from the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2012. His law practice is focused in the areas of criminal law, civil litigation, local government law, domestic/family law, corporate law, transactional law and trusts and estates. He also serves as chief judge of the Rome Municipal Court, is a past president of the Rome Bar Association and previously worked as an assistant public defender for the Rome Circuit.
The Board of Governors is the 160-member policymaking authority of the State Bar, with representation from each of Georgia’s judicial circuits. The board holds regular meetings at least four times per year.
