Atlanta – Tyronia “Ty” M. Smith, managing partner of Chester Jennings & Smith LLC in Atlanta, has been selected as the 2013 recipient of the Rosner & Rosner Young Lawyers Professionalism Award, presented by the American Bar Association (ABA) Center for Professional Responsibility.

She is the first Georgia lawyer to receive the award. Smith, who focuses her law practice on bankruptcy, litigation and personal injury, is a graduate of Wake Forest University Law School. She previously practiced at Parker, Hudson, Rainer & Dobbs LLP in Atlanta.

She serves as on the ABA House of Delegates and as vice coordinator of the Membership Board for the ABA Young Lawyers Division. She is also a member of the State Bar of Georgia Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Board of Directors. Smith has previously received the Georgia YLD 2010 Public Service Award, the Georgia YLD 2011 Ethics & Professionalism Award and the 2010 Star of the Quarter Award from the ABA Young Lawyers Division.

Smith is recognized for her leadership and implementation of a variety of programs serving the legal community and the public. She worked to create a network of young lawyers to address the legal needs of victims following widespread flooding in Georgia; she implemented a “Serving our Seniors” public service project to assist senior citizens with drafting advance directives and powers of attorney; and she is a founding member of the Judicial and Public Office Academy, which serves to support, educate, and prepare African-American female attorneys who desire to run for elected public or judicial offices.

She will accept the Rosner & Rosner Award during the 2013 ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco. The award is supported by the Rosner and Rosner Justice Fund, named by donor Seth Rosner in honor and in memory of his partners, Oscar S. Rosner, his father, and Jonathan L. Rosner, his brother. The award honors young lawyer commitment to legal and judicial ethics, lawyer professionalism, client protection and professional regulation.

As the 2013 award recipient, Smith will receive lifetime complimentary membership in the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility, complimentary registration for the Center’s National Professional Responsibility Conference and a complimentary one-year subscription to the web-based version of the ABA/BNA Lawyers’ Manual on Professional Conduct.

Representatives of the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility and the ABA Young Lawyers Division serve on the award’s selection committee.
