Attorney 3 | Georgia Department of Human Services (10/30/22) 

Location: Atlanta, GA 
Salary: $51,310.72 - $68,677.24

Job Description:
The selected candidate will be responsible for providing legal support to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and will ensure compliance with state and federal laws related to assigned program areas as well as respond to questions from and provide direction to OIG. Experience in regulatory or administrative law is preferred.

Job Duties:

  • Represents DHS in administrative hearings, including hearings related to criminal records checks and licensing sanctions.
  • Supervises at least one professional support staff.
  • Manages diverse caseloads and transactional work.
  • Drafts legal documents including motions, briefs and notices.
  • Conducts legal research, provides consultation and guidance to OIG programs on legal, administrative and legislative matters, especially in the areas of regulatory compliance and benefits recovery.
  • Provides legal review and drafting support of consent agreements, contracts, memoranda of understanding.

Assistant District Attorney | Superior Court, Eastern Judicial Circuit 

Location: Savannah, GA
Salary: $57,120-$121-155

The District Attorney’s Office for the Eastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia is seeking dynamic candidates to serve as assistant district attorneys in its felony, misdemeanor, juvenile court and appellate divisions. The positions are available immediately. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and interviews will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis until all vacancies have been filled. 

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the district attorney, the selected candidate(s) will perform prosecutorial duties to support the mission and vision of the District Attorney’s Office and the work of the various trial teams. Candidate(s) duties will include but are not limited to:  

  • Intake and Screening. Candidate(s) will evaluate, process and charge criminal cases; review initial and supplemental police reports to determine whether further investigation is needed, develop a theory of the case and trial strategy, and determine what, if any, additional information is needed to support same. Candidate(s) will draft accusations and indictments to prepare for filing or presentment by members of the trial teams.
  • Motions Practice. Candidate(s) are expected to draft and respond to criminal motions in a timely fashion. Such motions include, but are not limited to, motions to suppress, Jackson-Denno motions, discovery motions, immunity defense motions, motions in limine, motions to quash, motions for new trial, habeas corpus motions and appellate motions, ensuring that all arguments and briefs are supported by law.
  • Plea Negotiations. Based on their initial evaluation of the case, candidate(s) will recommend a plea offer, being careful to outline the reasons therefore, and draft plea paperwork using office-issued software which candidates will be trained to use.
  • Other. Candidates may be asked to perform other functions or duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Although candidates will not be required to appear in court, he or she must: 

  • Possess a Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Be a licensed attorney in good standing either in the State of Georgia or in another state that has reciprocity with Georgia such that he or she may be sworn into the State Bar of Georgia at the earliest opportunity. Limited resources may be available to assist with licensure fees to those who apply early.
  • Have at least two years of experience in criminal court experience, either for the prosecution or defense.
  • Have strong writing skills and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, Teams, Zoom and other basic communication platforms.
  • Undergo a background check, which could include fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check, credit check and a pre-employment drug screen. Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each.

Oil and Gas Attorney | Department of Law | State of Alaska

Location: Anchorage or Juneau, AK
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Job Description:
The state of Alaska has significant interests in oil and gas through its unique status as a major lessor, regulator, taxing authority and sovereign. The Oil and Gas Section attorneys represent state client agencies to ensure that the state's vast oil, gas and geothermal resources are responsibly managed and revenues from royalties and taxes received. The attorney hired for this position primarily will advise on upstream and midstream oil and gas issues including exploration, leasing, unitization, royalties, pipeline right-of-way leasing and tariff protests. The attorney may also represent the Department of Revenue in state tax matters including oil and gas production tax, corporate income tax, oil and gas property tax, and various state excise taxes. In addition to transactional work, the attorney will represent client agencies in state and federal courts, including trial and appellate courts, and before administrative agencies. The attorney will assist client agencies in review and drafting of state statutes and regulations as well as comments and litigation on federal statutes and regulations. Some travel may be required. Flexible schedules and work from home arrangements may be available.

Qualifications:
Applicants with three years or more of experience in work in the oil and gas industry or energy sector or state tax litigation are strongly preferred. Experience in bankruptcy is also highly desired.

Ethics Officer | Henry County Board of Ethics

Location: Henry County, GA
Salary: $68,384.24 - $96,873.31

Job Description:
This is a full-time salaried position, appointed by the Board of Ethics, to serve for a period not to exceed six years. The ethics officer need not be a resident of the county at the time of his or her appointment, but he or she shall reside in Henry County within six months of such appointment and continue to reside therein throughout such appointment. 

The duties of the ethics officer shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Educating and training all county officials and employees to have an awareness and understanding of the mandate for and enforcement of ethical conduct and advising them of the provisions of the code of ethics of Henry County.
  • Meeting with the Board of Ethics.
  • Advising officials and employees regarding disclosure statements and reviewing the same to ensure full and complete financial reporting.
  • Urging compliance with the code of ethics by calling to the attention of the board of ethics any failure to comply or any issues, including the furnishing of false or misleadin  information, that the ethics officer believes should be investigated by the board of ethics so that the Board of Ethics may take such action as it deems appropriate.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and acting upon information obtained from an ethics hotline.
  • Each complaint, as of the time it is reported, shall be deemed to be a separate pending investigation of a complaint against a public officer or employee as provided by Article 4 of Chapter 18 of Title 50 of the O.C.G.A.
  • Reporting suspected ethical violations to the board of ethics.
  • Reporting suspected criminal violations to state or federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Filing with the Board of Ethics and the board of commissioners on the first Tuesday of each February a written report describing the activities of the ethics officer in carrying out the goals of his or her office and the code of ethics and reporting on the ethical health of Henry County.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Ethics.

Chief Ethics Officer | DeKalb County

Job Description:
The chief ethics officer will be instrumental in promoting good government in DeKalb County by:

  • Educating and training all DeKalb County public officials and employees regarding the requirements of the ethics code; includes providing for in-person and electronic classes for over 6,000 employees.
  • Providing advice to public officials and employees on prevention and management of conflicts of interest and the appearance of conflicts of interest, financial disclosure statements (reviewing the same to ensure full and complete financial reporting) and interpretations of the ethics code.
  • Managing, evaluating and investigating information obtained from the county hotline.
  • Assessing jurisdiction and investigating complaints filed with the ethics office.

Job Description:
The purpose of this classification is to provide legal counsel to assigned departments, boards, elected officials and employees. This classification is distinguished from Assistant County Attorney I in that incumbents in this class have five years of law experience and are expected to be able to function with significant autonomy representing the interests of Fulton County-related clients with limited supervision.

Salary: $80,830 (GS 12 limited experience); $96,117 (GS-13 experienced)

The Office of the General Counsel generally hires attorneys with limited experience (GS 12) with a starting salary of $80,830 and above or experienced attorneys (GS-13) at a starting salary of $96,117 and above. The positions are located in the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center in Atlanta. All attorneys must be active members in good standing of the bar of any state, Washington, D.C. or U.S. Territory. Applicants should possess outstanding academic qualifications such as experience on Law Review or an equivalent legal journal, a Moot Court Team and academic standing in the top third of their law school class. Assistant regional counsel represent the Social Security Administration when decisions issued by the agency are subject to judicial review in federal court.
