Mediators conduct mediation conferences primarily via the Zoom video conference platform and, upon request, in-person throughout the state of Georgia to facilitate the resolution of workers’ compensation disputes and the settlement of workers’ compensation claims. Work as a mediator is key to moving an injured worker’s claim towards a final resolution. Therefore, mediators must adhere to ethical and legal guidelines, ensure confidentiality of the process as well as maintain proficiency in Georgia workers’ compensation law and current issues.

Our preferred candidate is a balanced employee who works hard to serve the public, but also takes time to recharge and recommit. Currently, but subject to the discretion of the Board, mediators are allowed to work from home two days per week. 

Job Summary:
This position will focus primarily on transactional work with an emphasis on drafting, negotiating and reviewing contracts of all types, including some real estate. Approximately three to seven years of experience practicing law with a focus on contracts, public procurement, real estate or education law is preferred but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division. We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an attorney, which provides assistance to the DPS commissioner and department employees concerning matters associated with the daily operations of the department and serves as the primary liaison with the Office of the Attorney General. This position reports to the agency’s deputy legal director. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as legal resource for matters handled by the Motor Carrier Compliance Division, including household goods and nonconsensual towing tariffs, permitting and regulations.
  • Serves as agency representative in administrative hearings on overweight citations issued to commercial vehicles.  
  • Reviews completed investigations of complaints relating to improper use of speed detection device permits and emergency light permits for further determination.
  • Serves as legal resource for matters relating to wrecker services utilized by GSP posts in accordance with department policy.
  • Serves as legal resource for questions of internal and external customers concerning issues of public safety and the operations of the department.
  • Provides verbal and written analysis, answers or recommendations regarding all aspects of daily operations of the department, including legal, liability and risk management issues.

The Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office (Walker, Catoosa, Chatooga and Dade counties) is looking for a recent law school graduate who has a heart for service and a drive excel in the courtroom. The Office of the Governor of American Samoa seeks an attorney to serve as legal counsel for Hon. Lemanu P. S. Mauga. The legal counsel must be comfortable balancing a fast-paced environment and long-term projects that involve novel areas of the law. Broad experience in government and legislative drafting is especially valued.

American Samoa is a territory that consists of tropical islands in the South Pacific. It has a unique political status among U.S. territories, giving rise to interesting legal issues. The territory will provide transportation for the person selected and their immediate family to the territory. Work can begin remotely, but the legal counsel must move to American Samoa.

Initial employment contract will be for a two year period. Further employment may be as a political appointee or a contract-specialist at the discretion of the employer.

  • Provide legal advice to the governor, lieutenant governor and senior staff in the Governor's Office.
