The Law-Related Education (LRE) Program offers K-12 teachers a wide variety of strategies for including LRE in their social science education curriculum, as well as suggestions for relating LRE to English, science, math and CTAE curricula.
Law-related education is an interactive method of teaching young people about the law and the fundamental principles on which it is based. More specifically, law-related education provides instruction concerning legal rights and responsibilities, and it encourages informed participation in our democratic government. National and state studies show, and the Georgia General Assembly agrees that law-related education deters delinquency and reduces disciplinary problems because it fosters the development of decision-making, problem solving and conflict management skills.
The program's outreach efforts fall into five key categories: the Journey Through Justice field trip; teacher workshops; online course- and subject-specific LiveBinders on a variety of legal topics; sponsorship of the American Bar Association Civics & Honor Roll and SkillsUSA Georgia's Criminal Justice Quiz Bowl; and the Virtual Museum of Law.
